Opening Night Reception - Gardens and Deserts
To launch our next Columbia Art Showcase exhibit on the theme, Gardens & Deserts, we will hold an opening night reception. The exhibit features artwork done by the Columbia community. Seven of the pieces have been commissioned for this exhibit, and there are a few additional pieces submitted for display (and in one case, consumption). Come to meet with some of the artists and enjoy an evening with refreshments and art.

JULY Saturday Opening
For July, rather than our usual 2nd Saturday of the month, we will be open on the 3rd Saturday, July 15th. Come, experience history come to life. No Reservations necessary. If you would like a tour, though, let us know.

APRIL Saturday Opening
For April, we are open on the usual 2nd Saturday of the month, which is also Holy Saturday within Easter Weekend. As such, we will also have up the Contemporary Stations of the Cross that were on display two years ago as part of the Liturgical Calendar exhibit. We will also continue to have on display our current feature exhibit, Beauty from Ashes - which is especially fitting in the transition within the Liturgical Calendar from Lent to Easter. Come April 8th. No Reservations necessary. If you would like a tour, though, let us know.
MARCH Saturday Opening
For March, we are open on the usual 2nd Saturday of the month. Come on March 11th to engage with original artwork from the Columbia community as part of our current exhibit - Beauty from Ashes - as well as to engage with the history of the rest of the museum. "Let's Play!" on Family Day: Board Games and More
Drop-in BC Family Day Museum visit and activities on Friday, February 17 & Monday, February 20, 11am-4pm.
The special BC Family Day attractions and activities includes the following:
Extended Feature Exhibit: Let’s Play! An Interactive and Cultural Look at Board Games through History. This exhibit is truly interactive with the ability not only to see and learn about some of the board games played across history and around the world, but also to play the games for oneself. [Feb. 20th marks the last day of the exhibit]
Nine Men’s Morris Challenge: Nine Men’s Morris is a board game of antiquity that is simple to learn and quick to play. Each winner will get their name entered into a draw for a prize. [note, despite the name of the board game, the challenge is not gender exclusive!]
Dice Probability Activity: The Role of dice is a key feature of many board games, and so to help understand the different types of dice across time and around the world, and to learn some of the dynamics of probability, this activity compares the probability of 6-sided dice with Mesoamerican 2-sided bean dice. [Participants can mark and take home their own bean dice.]
Family Scavenger Hunt: As a family group together or as individuals, complete a prepared scavenger hunt. Completed scavenger hunts get entered in a draw to win a prize.

FEBRUARY Saturday Opening
For February, we are open on the usual 2nd Saturday of the month. Come on Feb 11th to experience history and play some board games as part of our current exhibit - Let’s Play! An Interactive and Cultural Look at Board Games through History. This particular Saturday will give a unique opportunity to play Kriegsspiel (lit. “war game”), an early nineteenth-century Prussian game of military conquest (game will start at 1pm). No Reservations necessary. If you would like to participate in playing Kriegsspiel or would like a tour, though, let us know.
